Updates from the Laguna Beach City Manager’s office

The City Manager’s office prepares a memo for Councilmembers weekly with notes covering many subjects.

Released: January 19, 2017

Possible Dog Park Closures due to Weather - The National Weather Service is predicting a series of substantial rain events over the next week.  Public Works staff will inspect the conditions at the Dog Park on a daily basis and may be required to close the park if the conditions warrant. If the Dog Park is closed, it will be re-evaluated on a daily basis in an effort to open the park as soon as possible. Please check the City’s website, Facebook page and Twitter feed for the most current information.

Citizen’s Academy - The Laguna Beach Police Department is still accepting applications for the upcoming Citizen’s Academy. The academy starts Thursday, February 2 and will meet from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. for twelve weeks.  It is a non-stress course and a fantastic opportunity to better understand your police department and help improve communications between police personnel and citizens.

City Hall Exhibition “Taking Measure” - Laguna College of Art and Design’s MFA programs in Drawing and Painting will be exhibiting work on the first floor of Laguna Beach City Hall, 505 Forest Avenue, from January 23 to March 10, 2017. Taking Measure is an exhibition featuring more than twenty original drawings and paintings by current LCAD MFA candidates. The exhibition is free and open to the public during normal City Hall hours.

Firefighter of the Year - The Fire Department is proud to announce that Fire Captain Scott Jennie has been selected as the 2016 Firefighter of the year!  Scott has been with the Fire Department for over 26 years and has been a Captain for the last 15 years.  This past year Scott has taken the lead in a “back to basics” approach to training with emphasis on Firefighter safety.  Scott coordinated an intense three-day training class for all personnel on Firefighter survival techniques and was the Academy Coordinator for the Department’s two new Firefighters.  Scott will be joined by his family when he is honored by the Laguna Beach American Legion on Thursday, January 19, and by the Mission Viejo Elks on Saturday, February 11, 2017.  Please join us in congratulating Fire Captain Scott Jennie on this achievement.
