Rebirth of Renaissance: Laguna Beach artist Samvel Lajikian displays his art on stage during Katt Williams’ HBO Special

To many show business is lights, camera, action with all its glamour, fame and celebrity; but to comedian Katt Williams it is art.  And Katt not only values his own art but the impeccable talent of others.

For his upcoming HBO special “Priceless”, directed by Spike Lee, Williams chose the work of a renaissance style artist, Samvel Lajikian, to be displayed on his stage as a part of the decor. However, the 4’ by 4’ oil painting on canvas of Jesus Christ “The Last Supper” is more than just decor. Williams is known for his audacity, courage, and his outspoken style.  Often we hear Williams talk about Satan and his powers but one thing that keeps Williams going and sane is his belief in Jesus Christ.

“The Last Supper”

This was painted 20 years ago. It is a part of a collection called “Monuscripts”

However, religious topic is not the only interest of Lajikian, a Laguna Beach resident. He has an extensive line of portraits, landscapes, still lives and various compositions that are masterly performed in all techniques including watercolor, acrylic and oil.

“Every person that graces this world with his or her presence has a mission accompanied with a God-given gift”, states Lajikian. “The meaning of life is to discover that talent and do what we’re put on this earth to do. I am thrilled and humbled that I met Katt (Williams) who is a genius at what he does. I am more-so excited that we both found our purpose in life through our art. Katt is a great master of his craft and it’s an honor that our paths have crossed.”

Since 1981 Lajikian has participated in numerous individual and group exhibitions in Asia, Europe, and the United States. He illustrated hundreds of books of such famous authors like Pushkin, Tolstoy, Mark Twain, Charles Dickens, Daniel Defoe and many others.

Lajikian’s artworks have been acquired by the Ministry of Arts and Culture of Armenia, The State Gallery of Armenia, Merkurov Museum, as well as many private collectors, among whom was Michael Jackson, who loved “Michael Jackson Last Supper” oil on canvas creation.

Katt Williams’ “Priceless” airs on HBO on Saturday, August 16 at 10 p.m. PST.
