Rosalind Russell, of R Star Foundation “Women Helping Women & Children in Nepal”, often referred to as the goat lady, has been invited by Jorge Iseli Aponte, to deliver a presentation on the 15th of January in Puerto Rico.

Originally, Russell planned to go to Puerto Rico following her two-month trip to Nepal where she is aiding earthquake-affected villages with rebuilding. At first, Russell’s idea had been to defrost in Puerto Rico after the arduous journey to Nepal. However, the flight was unfortunately cancelled due to an Indian embargo that blocked all materials from crossing the border into Nepal. This prevented necessary supplies such as transportation fuels, cooking fuels, and building materials for more than four months – just six months following April’s devastating earthquake. The result has brought Nepal beyond a humanitarian crisis that few in the world would ever know.

It is mindboggling to understand how the people could survive one disaster only to have another follow. Because of the embargo on supplies, the Nepalese have been deprived any opportunity to rebuild their lives before cold winter set in. Villagers were not able to store the season’s harvest, city dwellers have had few food choices and ways to cook, and costs are skyrocketing.

Presenting Nepal’s situation in Puerto Rico pleases Russell beyond measure since, as she states: “It is so cold here this winter the warmth is welcome. Perhaps when I return from Puerto Rico, the embargo against Nepal will be over and I can embark on the trip to lift the people of Nepal while determining where to best serve.”
