Breakers Baseball finishes regular season with a win, prepares for CIF run

LBHS Baseball finished off its regular season with back-to-back wins against Estancia Tuesday and Wednesday. The Breakers finished the regular season 19-9 overall and 14-1 in league, winning the Orange Coast League for the 6th straight year.  Laguna will move to the Sunset League for the 2018-19 season.

Tuesday’s game featured a strong pitching performance by Jack Loechner as the Breakers defeated Estancia by the score of 8-0. Aidan Booth went 4-5 with 2 RBI and Grady Morgan went 2-3 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI, leading the Breakers’ offensive attack.

Senior Sawyer Chesley

Wednesday was Senior Day for Laguna Beach. Laguna will graduate 10 seniors this spring and all 10 saw action in their final regular season game. The game was close until the 5th inning, when Laguna’s bats came alive. The team posted 8 runs in the inning, leading the Breakers to a 13-4 victory. 

Morgan, 2-3 with a double, triple and 2 RBI, and Booth, 3-4 with 3 RBI, again led the offense. Cutter Clawson had three hits and Christian Holm had a 2-RBI double to round out the offensive attack. The Breakers’ seniors dominated the mound Wednesday with Blake Burzell, Remy Mackel, Joe Sweet and Justin Holm all contributing to the win. Mackel picked up the win, throwing one scoreless inning.

Laguna will compete in Division 2 CIF Championship starting next week. The 32-team playoff bracket will be announced on Monday, with the first round starting Thursday.
