Local Keith Kesler and his family bring Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream to first OC location on Sept 6

Stu News got the scoop on Laguna Beach’s own graffiti fighter’s new endeavor. Keith Kesler and his family are bringing Handel’s award-winning homemade ice cream to their first Orange County location on Thursday, Sept 6 in Laguna Niguel.

“We are so excited to bring the first Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream to Orange County. It only took 77 years in the making. My wife, Shirlyn, and I will be in the store making that best ice cream in the world, and we look forward to putting a smile on your face,” says Kesler. “My wife and her five siblings all graduated from LBHS. The last of our five children will be a junior this year at the high school.”

Handel’s Homemade Ice Cream has 48 flavors available daily

There’s a reason it has been voted as the best ice cream (National Geographic, The Ten Best of Everything) and Orange County is about ready to taste it for themselves. Handel’s was started in 1945 in Youngstown, Ohio by Alice Handle in her husband’s gas station.

Kesler continues, “We have been looking for a family owned business that we could involve our children in. Something that we could leave for them in the future. We knew that we wanted a food/dessert based concept to share with the community. The location to us was very important as we wanted to be around schools, community centers and families. We are ice cream fanatics so we kept searching until we finally tasted Handel’s and we were hooked.”

“Handel’s makes their ice cream daily in every store, which means you can taste the freshness and see the quality ingredients. We’re so excited to be bringing the best ice cream in the world to our friends and neighbor’s” said Marcus Weenig, who is one of the partners.

James Brown the CEO of Handel’s had this to say: “We receive hundreds of franchise requests a year. We don’t grant a franchise, we firmly believe we gift the franchise. It is done with the utmost consideration. The ownership group in Laguna Niguel exceeded our expectations every day. They represent the finest in people and we have no doubt they will do the same regarding our brand. Orange County will be thrilled in our decision to open in Laguna Niguel.”

This store will be located in the Rancho Niguel shopping center at 28121 Crown Valley Parkway in Laguna Niguel, just across the street from the Regency Theaters Directors Cut Cinema. The second location will be in Rancho Santa Margarita, and will open later this year.
