Kit-Lit Writing Contest deadline is coming up fast: Your creativity could help rescue cats find homes

If you’re creative, love cats, and want to help publicize the plight of rescue cats and/or the wonderful world of felines, think about entering nonprofit Catmosphere Laguna Foundation’s Kit-Lit and Fe’Line Art Contests. The deadline of February 21 is coming up soon.

There are great prizes to be had and two opportunities for winners to read their works.

All genres of writing and art are welcome, though Kit-Lit entries should be fewer than 750 words, and all entries must be cat-themed. Please send as a Word document.

Categories are as follows: 12 years and under; 13 – 17; and 18 years and over. There’s no entry fee.

Kit-Lit entries and photos of Fe’Line Art can be emailed to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. or dropped off at Catmosphere Laguna, 381 Forest Ave, Laguna Beach.

Winners will be announced on March 3 and a Winners’ Celebration/Reading held on March 18. There will also be a reading at a fundraising brunch for Blue Bell Foundation for Cats.

Catmosphere Laguna provides a warm, loving setting for rescue cats as they wait to be adopted. Visitors are asked to pay $22 an hour to hang out with the up-to-16 cats in residence at any given time; kids 6 – 17 are $12. The money underwrites the housing of the cats and the cost of food, litter, toys, spaying, shots, and other veterinary costs as they await their “furrever” homes.
