Laguna Beach Garden Club announces 2019-2020 scholarship recipients

The Laguna Beach Garden Club is thrilled to announce the presentation of $5,500 total in scholarships to local students for the 2019-20 academic year. One of the primary programs the Laguna Beach Garden Club fundraises for each year is the Scholarship Program. 

This program provides scholarships to Saddleback College horticultural students and to Laguna Beach High School seniors.

Scholarship recipient Logan Leeds 

Jeremy Logan Leeds was awarded $2,500 from LBGC. Jeremy showed a passion for the environment by creating signposts for Laguna Canyon’s James Dilley Preserve at his own expense, as his Eagle Scout project. He logged 300+ hours of community service. He is an accomplished writer and plans to major in Creative Writing as well as pursue his interest in ecology, zoology, marine biology, and forestry.

Scholarship recipient Christine Villa 

Three Saddleback College horticulture students were granted $1,000 each, to assist them in the pursuit of degrees. Christine Villa will transfer to Cal Poly Pomona to obtain her Bachelor of Arts in Plant Science and minor in Urban & Community Agriculture. 

Chloe Simpson will join her husband (a recently discharged veteran) at Humboldt State to study Botany, genetic codes of plants. Susan Ramirez plans to start a new career in sustainable landscape design.

Providing scholarships to students passionate about LBGC’s mission ensures the club’s efforts will continue to flourish by fostering the next generation of leaders.

The nonprofit Laguna Beach Garden Club, Inc. was founded in 1928 in beautiful Laguna Beach, and celebrated its 91st anniversary in February. Its members support a wide variety of projects related to education in gardening, horticulture, landscape and floral design, conservation, ecology, and bird life.
