In our backyard: Celebrate the Arts at Dana Point’s largest free community art event on Sunday

Live performance artist Thomas Clark returns and an interactive Kids’ Fun Zone makes its debut at the 2019 Dana Point ArtFest, the largest free community arts event in Dana Point, set for this Sunday, June 2 from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., in the city’s Lantern District.

This festive annual event features fine art from almost 100 artists, special menu items at five restaurants, four beer and wine gardens, and live jazz, rock, and pop music at three locations – Jack’s Restaurant, Shwack Beach Grill, and Luxe Restaurant. Bring your family, stroll at your leisure, buy art from local artists, drop into one of the restaurants for great food and libations, and make a day out of it.

Artists will display a wide variety of fine art, including sculpture, ceramics, art glass, jewelry, painting, drawing, photography, woodworking, and metalwork.

The new Kids’ Fun Zone will feature two interactive art booths in which children can either paint small wooden surfboards they can take home with them or on a large elephant sculpture.

There will also be a face painting booth, an art booth presented by Laguna Beach’s Sawdust Festival, an art booth presented by young artists from Dana Hills High School, a booth featuring AR Workshop of San Juan Capistrano, and a Steampunk Art steam-powered whaling exhibit.

The Lantern District Jazz Quartet, featuring guitarist Sam Shepherd, will be playing jazz at the Jack’s parking lot, singer-songwriters Tatiana Raines and Matt Stephens will play rock-pop covers outside Shwack, and the Don Duncan Band and singer Lindsay Kohl will perform classic hits at Luxe.

Beer and wine gardens for those 21-and-older will be located at Jack’s, Shwack, Luxe, and Stillwater.

The event takes place on Del Prado between PCH at the archway and Golden Lantern, in the Lantern District.

Formerly the Dana Point Art Walk, this community event is held in June each year. The Dana Point ArtFest is dedicated to encouraging artists, musicians, and merchants to connect with the community through the arts and to foster an art movement in the city of Dana Point.

Performance artist Clark, whose clients have included Disneyland, Warner Bros. Music, Cirque du Soleil, and Sony, and whose live paintings have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for charity and entertained thousands around the world, will again be painting murals on the north side of Del Prado between Amber Lantern (now closed) and Ruby Lantern. Clark will be painting during the duration of the event, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Sponsors include Jack’s, Shwack, Luxe, Stillwater Spirits & Sound, Coastal Kitchen, Killer Dana, sea & sky, Rado’s Fitness, Dana Bay Gallery, Laura Seeley Fine Art, Nexus, and the City of Dana Point.

The event is free and open to the public.
