Auditions for The Giver

The play opens up with Jonas living in a perfect world. Everything is under control and safe. There is no war or fear or pain. There are also no choices. Every person is assigned a role in the community. When Jonas turns 12, he is chosen by The Giver for training to receive and keep the memories of the community, and things change.

The roles include: Father (Adult) – Jonas’s good-natured father, Mother (Adult)– Jonas’ good-natured mother, The Chief Elder (Adult) – Master of the Ceremony, The Giver (Adult) – an old man, Jonas (12 - teen) – a boy turning 12, Lily (10 - 13, but must look younger) – Jonas’ 7-year-old sister,  Asher (11 - teen) – Jonas’ best friend, Fiona (11 - teen) – Jonas’ friend, Rosemary (11 - teen) – a girl from the past, and Ensemble (11 – teen) – townsfolk, “Greek Chorus.”

Those who wish to audition should prepare a one and a half minute memorized monologue from a play or literature (age appropriate, of course). They must also bring a photo, resume and a schedule to complete a conflict sheet.

All casting roles include a modest (adult) travel stipend.

Auditions are by phone appointment. To schedule an audition, call Wally Ziegler at (949) 342-1785.
