Volunteers from UPS decorate Waymakers Youth Shelters for holiday season

Waymakers, a nonprofit organization committed to providing high-quality counseling and support services to struggling Orange County children and families, hosted its second annual Holiday House Decorating Contest in partnership with UPS locations in Anaheim and Laguna.

On Thursday, Nov 21, volunteers from the Laguna UPS location decorated the Laguna Beach Youth Shelter and volunteers from the Anaheim UPS location adorned the Tustin Youth Shelter in festive décor just in time for the holidays.

Volunteers from UPS decorate Waymakers

Waymakers’ youth shelter programs represent the largest short-term shelter system for homeless, runaway, and at-risk youth in Orange County. Waymakers has youth shelters in Laguna Beach (opened in 1979), Huntington Beach (opened in 2006), and Tustin (opened in 2016).

These youth shelters are part of Waymakers’ well-vetted Children’s Crisis Residential Program, designed to give youth ages 11-17 a safe alternative to living on the streets while receiving emergency services – including 24-hour supervision, counseling, tutoring, and life-skills development – in a home-like and supportive group environment. With a total of 24 beds across all three locations, Waymakers serves as a 24-hour family crisis resource to parents and youths residing in Orange County, especially those who do not have the means to seek private help.

Waymakers is committed to providing high-quality counseling and support services to struggling OC children and families at their greatest time of need. The Youth Shelter program aims to achieve the following goals: family strengthening and reunification, homeless prevention, diversion of at-risk youth from the juvenile justice system, and school drop-out prevention. In addition to providing youth with a safe haven and protection from the dangers of the streets, the shelter also provides youth and their families with professional comprehensive services including outreach and prevention.

The Waymakers Youth Shelters are not just a place to stay; they provide a place for homeless, runaway, and at-risk youth 24/7, 365 days a year. This event helps bring joy and holiday spirit to the residents of the youth shelters, which can be a difficult time for struggling families.
