Crystal Cove Conservancy event: More than a book signing, an update on North Beach Cottages

On Sunday Feb 25 between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m., Crystal Cove Conservancy will present a unique program featuring a book signing of “Crystal Cove Cottages: Islands in Time on the California Coast,” second edition, with co-author, Laura Davick, Founder and Vice President of The Conservancy. 

Learn about the rich history of Crystal Cove and about the final capstone North Beach Restoration Project.

“This is more than just a book signing. We are excited to raise awareness for completing the restoration of the final 17 cottages on the North Beach Restoration Project for Crystal Cove State Park and to protect this national jewel for future generations,” says Davick.

Event will update the latest about the 17 cottages on the north beach

The Sunday program will include a Q&A session, book signing and a 15-minute tour and overview on the sand in front of the North Beach Cottages.

“Crystal Cove Cottages: Islands in Time on the Coast” was originally published by Chronicle Books in 2005. The authors share a love story about the families that built the cottages and the spirit that still exists in them today. 

Meriam Braselle, a former resident of Abalone Point and one of the founding members of Laguna Plein Air Painters; Karen Steen and her family who share deep roots of the tent-camping era at the cove; and Laura Davick ,who had the good fortune to call historic Cottage #2 her home for 40 years. 

The launch of this treasured second edition was made possible through the generous support and partnership of Randy Higbee.

 “We are elated to shine the light on the North Beach as Crystal Cove Conservancy begins its largest preservation initiative to date,” says Davick. “We invite you to participate in the ongoing effort to protect and preserve this pocket of paradise for all to enjoy.”

Books will be sold at the event and can also be purchased for $34.95 at The Conservancy’s interpretive store in the park or on the Crystal Cove website. RSVP by Mon, Feb 19 at

Members receive a 10 percent discount on book purchase. Refreshments will be served, all proceeds from book sales will be donated to support the mission of Crystal Cove Conservancy. 

Guests can park at the Los Trancos parking lot on the inland side of Pacific Coast Highway for $5 per hour or for a maximum of $15 for the entire day. The Beachcomber shuttle bus will be available from the Los Trancos parking lot for $1.50 each way.
