According to LBPD Emergency Operations Coordinator Jordan Villwock, “The male was identified as Anthony Scarpinato. He [allegedly] told the 18-year-old lifeguard that he was going to ‘rip his throat out.’”

According to police records, “The subjects were [allegedly] upset because they were advised to remove the[ir] dog from the beach.”

Anthony James Scarpinato, 52, was arrested for allegedly making criminal threats with intent to terrorize and resisting an executive officer.

 Bail was set at $70,000.

Frequent arrestee taken in for alleged burglary

On Tuesday, July 2, at 8:04 a.m., LBPD officers were dispatched to the 1100 block of Gaviota Drive for an alleged burglary in progress.

According to Villwock, when officers arrived, they found and contacted Daniel Moretti inside and he was subsequently arrested. “At this time, it is unknown how Moretti entered the home,” said Villwock. “However, he did [allegedly] steal a bottle of champagne, which he still had the cork to in his pants pocket.”

Daniel James Moretti, 40, was arrested for alleged burglary.

Bail was set at $50,000.

Two days earlier on Sunday, June 30, at 8:55 a.m., at the 100 block of Cliff Drive, Moretti was arrested for alleged trespassing.

According to police records, it was reported that a male was walking by that appeared to be “casing the place.” The suspect appeared to be stopping and hiding in between parked cars as people passed him.

Bail was set at $500.

Two weeks prior, on Saturday, June 15, at approximately 3:06 a.m., LBPD officers were conducting a foot patrol in the area of Marine Way. The officers were doing residence checks due to the recent burglaries in the area.

“While checking a residence in the 1000 block of Marine Way, officers noticed a broken pane of glass on the upper portion of the side kitchen door,” LBPD Spokesperson PIO Sgt Jim Cota said. “Officers made entry into the residence and eventually located a male subject in one of the upstairs bedrooms.”

The subject was detained and later identified as Daniel Moretti. Moretti admitted to throwing a rock through the window in order to gain entry to the residence, Sgt Cota said.

He was transported to LBPD for booking for alleged vandalism and trespassing.

Bail was set at $20,000.

A couple of weeks prior, on Friday, May 31, at 6:34 a.m., Moretti was also arrested for alleged trespassing, this time at the 100 block of Crescent Bay Drive.
