Local musician loses everything in house fire

On Monday, Sept 2, at 9:53 p.m., emergency personnel were dispatched to the 20900 block of Castle Rock Road for a structure fire. 

According to LBPD Spokesperson Sgt Jim Cota, “When officers arrived on scene, they found the rear unit engulfed in flames. Firefighters knocked down the fire and confirmed the unit was unoccupied.” 

Sgt Cota added, “The cause of the fire was unknown. No other homes were damaged.”

LBFD contains fire that ravaged a residential unit to the ground

According to the resident, he was living in the residence temporarily. Unfortunately, he lost everything including all of his clothes, computers, hard drives, books, a piano, costumes, jewelry, years of songwriting materials, and gifts from friends and family.

Young busker’s Harry Potter purse and cash stolen while performing with her dad downtown

On Sunday, Sep 1, at 10:50 a.m., a young female, who is a busker and performs with her father at the corner of Forest Avenue and South Coast Highway, came into the station to report a theft. 

The night before between the hours of 11 p.m. and midnight, it is reported that she hung her purse on the donation parking meter while she and her father were performing. 

According to Sgt Cota, “During that time, an unknown suspect stole her Harry Potter purse. The contents included a wallet, debit card, a few gift cards, and $65 cash.” 

The total loss was reported to be $100. 

“There is no video surveillance that overlooks that area or witnesses. A report was taken,” Sgt Cota said.

Man arrested for alleged petty theft from vehicle

On Monday, Sept 2, at 7:55 a.m., LBPD officers responded to the 700 block of North Coast Highway regarding an alleged burglary in progress. A suspect was reportedly seen rummaging through a vehicle. 

According to Sgt Cota, “An officer located the suspect in the Husky Boy Burgers parking lot. The suspect was identified as Charles Buhl. Buhl was identified by the witness and was in possession of property stolen from the vehicle.” 

Charles Jeffery Buhl, 64, of San Juan Capistrano, was arrested for alleged petty theft. 

“He became uncooperative during transportation to the officers so he went directly to OC Jail,” Sgt Cota said.
