Five injured, (two critically) in crash near El Morro Monday night

A two-vehicle crash on Coast Highway near the entrance to El Morro Elementary School at about 9:15 Monday night sent five people to area hospitals.

A 20-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man were critically injured when they were ejected from a Ford SUV that rolled over after colliding with a Dodge Caravan.

A 10-year-old girl in the SUV received minor injuries and was transported to Children’s Hospital in Orange. A fourth occupant of the SUV was also injured, as was the only occupant – an older woman – of the Dodge Caravan.

All four adults were taken to trauma centers – two went to Mission Trauma Center in Mission Viejo and the others to OC Global Medical Center in Santa Ana.

Coast Highway was closed in both directions from Newport Coast to the north city limits of Laguna Beach.

No details about the cause of the crash were immediately available.
