U12 Laguna Beach girls rule the pool at National Junior Olympics

In case you missed it, Laguna Beach Water Polo Foundation (LBWPF) represented well at the 2018 USA Water Polo National Junior Olympics at Stanford University’s Avery Complex.

The LBWPF girls U12 team are national champions for a second year in a row under coach Kelcie Ferreira. In a shootout, the girls defeated Commerce 9-7 for the gold with tournament MVP honors awarded to Emerson Hensley. The girls U14 team finished 2nd behind Pacific Coast Riptide. Also in the platinum division, the U12 boys placed 21st and the U10 coed team placed 8th. In the gold division, the girls U14 B team placed 6th. 

In the U16 girls platinum division, SET, coached by Ethan Damato and including Laguna Beach High School girls, were crowned champions. Goalie Quinn Winter, an LBHS student, received tournament MVP honors. SET U18 girls placed 3rd in the platinum division.

Laguna Beach Water Polo Foundation U12 girls are National Junior Olympic Champions again. Returning champions from the 2017 team include coach Kelcie Ferreira, Ava Knepper, Claire Turner, Avery Monteil, and Nina Rogers.

Tournament MVP Emerson Hensley is a Thurston student who is passionate about water polo. She led the way for Laguna Beach along with returning champions Ava Knepper, Claire Turner, and Nina Rogers, and goalkeepers Siena Jumani and Sofia Umeda.
