Kadin Chestelson crowned Laguna Beach Little League’s Home Run Derby winner, two teams take home Tournament of Champions trophies

It was an exciting weekend at the ballpark for Laguna Beach’s Little Leaguers, with two hometown teams taking home the coveted District 55 Tournament of Champions (TOC) trophies for the year, and Kadin Chestelson being crowned Laguna Beach Little League’s (LBLL) 2024 Home Run Derby winner.

Chestelson, who played in the Majors division this season, hit a total of 14 home runs to secure the Home Run Derby crown.

Kadin Chestelson hit 14 home runs on Saturday (June 8) to secure LBLL’s Home Run Derby crown

The runner up was Mason Woravka, also a Majors player, who hit a total of 11 home runs.

Asher Halbert (Majors) and Gideon Munsey (AAA) also hit two home runs each in the derby.

Also on Saturday, two LBLL teams took home Tournament of Champions trophies.

In the Majors Division, LBLL’s Rotary team defeated the Lake Forest Titans, 4-2, at Riddle Field.

Rotary was led by Silas Murray who pitched 4 and 2/3rds innings and struck out 7 batters. Kian Vellmure pitched the remaining 1 and 2/3rds innings and allowed zero runs (striking out 3 batters).

Aaron Ticatch scored the first run for Rotary, driven in by a single by Murray.

Murray, Vellmure, Harry Onel, Axel Schroeder and Mateo Yanes each collected one hit for Rotary during the game.

Team Rotary won the Tournament of Champions (Majors Division) in an exciting 4-2 game at Riddle Field on Saturday

Rotary also faced the Laguna Hills Angels in Round 2 of the tournament and mercied them 10-0. Laguna had a bye for Round 1.

In the AA Division, LBLL’s Jedidiah Coffee team defeated the Lake Forest Trojans on Saturday for the championship trophy, 11-7, in extra innings at Woodfield Park in Aliso Viejo.

Knox Medeiros was the starting pitcher for Jedidiah Coffee, followed by Jacob Klong for one inning and Cruz Medeiros (one of the Medeiros twins) for the remainder of the game.

Coffee trailed 0-6 into the fifth inning. The first runs of the game were driven in by Drew Ticatch who doubled on a line drive to the right fielder, sending Jedidiah Coffee’s first two runs of the game in.

The game went into extra innings and ended with the final score of 11-7 after 7 innings.

Jedidiah Coffee had also faced the Laguna Niguel Giants in Round 2 of the tournament, winning that game 9-3. Laguna had a bye for Round 1.
