Large CAT excavator reportedly stolen, driven down the 133 toward Irvine before arrest made

On Saturday, June 15 at 9:52 am, Laguna Beach Police officers responded to the area of SR-133 and the SR-73 in reference to a male subject who had reportedly stolen a large CAT excavator. The male subject was able to start the excavator and drive it outbound SR-133 toward Irvine.

Officers initiated a vehicle enforcement stop and arrested the male subject on suspicion of multiple charges.

Suspect arrested following alleged theft of large CAT excavator on Saturday (June 15) morning

Seven arrested and 21 alleged violators cited at Laguna Beach DUI Checkpoint

The Laguna Beach Police Department (LBPD) conducted a DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint and saturation patrol on Friday, June 14, between the hours of 8:40 p.m. and 1:40 a.m. Checkpoint locations are selected based upon deterrence of drunk and drugged drivers along with the greatest safety opportunities for officers and the public.

LBPD appreciates the support of officers from the California Highway Patrol, Newport Beach Police Department, Costa Mesa Police Department, Buena Park Police Department and California State Parks who assisted with the checkpoint.

The checkpoint yielded the following results:

–1,763 vehicles went through the checkpoint.

–535 drivers were greeted.

–Six DUI-alcohol suspects were arrested.

–One suspect was arrested on other alleged criminal charges.

–Two citations were issued for unlicensed related violations.

LBPD will be conducting another checkpoint in the next three months.

Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
