Laguna Beach auto shop owner arrested on suspicion of stealing clients’ cars

On April 18, Laguna Beach Police Department (LBPD) officers arrested James Michael Ross, the owner of Laguna Beach Collision Center, previously located at 2147 Laguna Canyon Road. Ross’ charges were related to allegations of auto theft and embezzlement, stemming from six separate LBPD cases. Ross was released from custody after posting bail.

LBPD detectives conducted a lengthy investigation and learned that Ross had allegedly stolen numerous vehicles that were brought to him for repairs. Ross is accused of then driving these vehicles for his personal use and stopping contact with the owners of the vehicles. The owners were reportedly unable to contact Ross or regain possession of their vehicles, prompting them to report the alleged crimes to LBPD.

On June 19, LBPD received an additional report that Ross had allegedly stolen another vehicle from a client. LBPD detectives immediately began investigating that case and located the vehicle the next day. LBPD detectives arrested Ross on suspicion of possession of a stolen vehicle.

Ross was booked into the Orange County Jail and is being held without bail.
