On Tuesday, Feb. 6, the City of Laguna Beach was notified of mud and debris coming down the hillside from Sunset Avenue between 10th and 11th avenues.
In collaboration with the South Coast Water District (SCWD), Laguna Beach Public Works and Utilities staff responded to assess and mitigate the situation. After assessing the slope erosion adjacent to Sunset Avenue, crews closed the road and turned off the water main.
By Tuesday night, SCWD staff restored temporary water service to all customers, and the road was reopened except for the affected portion.
The city’s geotechnical consultants will continue to assess the damage and will determine a plan for repair and restoration with SCWD.
This is the second time in recent months that the same roadway, in the same area, faced severe damage.
